As a school we feel strongly that the education and development of each child depends upon a positive partnership between home and school. This partnership is dependent on both parties accepting their own responsibilities towards the development of the potential of every child. The school does have an open door policy to communication and believes that the better the level of communication, the less chance there is of misunderstanding.
There are many ways in which home-school links are developed here at St Paul’s, including:
- Meet the teacher sessions at the beginning of the academic year when expectations for the year are explained and there is the opportunity to ask questions.
- Parents of Reception children are invited for a cup of tea with the Headteacher before an assembly to welcome the children to St Paul’s.
- FS and KS1 parents are invited in for Friday morning reading.
- Parent consultations are held twice a year when parents/carers and teachers can meet to talk about children’s progress.
- There is an open evening towards the end of the school year, where parents are invited to visit classrooms and see work from throughout the year.
- Curriculum evenings to provide further information.
- All parents are invited to FOSP (Friends of St Paul’s) meetings – this is a great way to be become more involved in school life.
- Reports are sent out each term with information on learning and what can be done at home to help; more detail is provided in the annual end-of-year report.
- Newsletters and letters to parents/ carers, giving details of school events, out of school activities, educational visits, FOSP meetings and activities are sent out on a regular basis.
- Regular messages and updates are given through the school emailing and texting system.
- Open mornings are held for parents at various times throughout the school year.
- Parents are welcome to attend class sharing assemblies.
- Individual meetings can be arranged with the class teacher and, if needed, the Headteacher.
- Surveys are sent out to consult parents and seek views when reviewing school practice.
